LETTER TO THE EDITOR

Return Cushing to Maine Senate
Carroll1
I want the people of Penobscot County to know how thankful I am for my senator, Republican Andre Cushing. I’m glad we have a state senator who believes in an efficient government accountable to the people. Cushing’s commitment to small government acknowledges God-given individual freedoms as well as our responsibility to help those less fortunate who truly rely upon others for assistance. He knows as long as state and local governments spend irresponsibly, it is the truly needy who suffer.

As the director of the Christian Civic League, I greatly appreciate Cushing’s consistent defense of the unborn, traditional values and our religious freedoms as he has served not only in the House and the Senate but also selflessly serving on the local level as town councilor and private citizen. Who organizes and attends community events more than Cushing?

While traveling, I am particularly thankful and proud to let folks know that Maine’s Senate is led by three Christian men whose faith plays a central role in their service to our state: Cushing, Senate assistant majority leader; Garrett Mason, Senate majority leader; and Mike Thibodeau, Senate president. All three of the senators lean upon their personal faith to guide them as they seek justice and prosperity for all Mainers.

Southern Penobscot County is blessed to have someone representing them with Cushing’s experience in public service and in the private sector. I hope its citizens support Cushing and return him to the state Senate.

Cushing for Senate

12321257_1490752510949361_8614132602058723557_nI was raised by a family that believes in a few things: being a good neighbor, taking care of my patients as an orthodontist and giving back to my community. I am pleased to be represented by someone in the Maine Senate who also shares these values.

Sen. Andre Cushing, R-Newport, is a great example of the type of person who lives these same type of values. My father has known him for years; they both served together on many projects in the Bangor Rotary. My family and I became his neighbors several years ago, and I have watched as he worked on our Town Council and then in the Legislature to support our community and its residents.
It is rare nowadays to find individuals such as Cushing who will listen to us regular folks and then work to make a difference for their issues, regardless of what party they belong to or whether they voted for them.
That’s why my family and I will proudly continue to support Cushing. He is a hardworking, thoughtful and respectful representative of Senate District 10, and I am proud to have him serving in the Maine Senate. I ask voters to join me this November and keep him working for all of us.

Re-elect Cushing

m pierce2I am someone who looks at the world in a pretty straightforward way. This includes politics. I want someone who works hard to do the right thing, who is available to hear the concerns of those they serve and will put aside politics and partisanship to get something done to address the issues they are faced with.

That is why I have and will continue to support state Sen. Andre Cushing, R-Newport. He is a hardworking, thoughtful and respectful representative, and I am proud to have him serving in the Maine Senate.
I have watched as he worked as a state representative, town councilor and now as a senator to find sensible solutions to the issues that affect our towns and our state. We could use a few more like him in Augusta (and maybe a lot more in Washington, too). For these reasons, I ask voters to join me in voting to re-elect him this November.

Cushing for Senate

July303012 068As former legislators who had the honor of serving the people of our area, we understand what it takes to be effective in Augusta. It is important to elect someone who has the best interests of his or her constituents and our state at heart, someone who works hard to understand the needs of our community and its people and is conscientious about attending and supporting local events and civic activities.

Sen. Andre Cushing, R-Newport, exemplifies these qualities. Whether it is an early community breakfast, a late night issue forum or a Saturday town meeting, he can be found there, listening to the concerns and interests of the people of his district. He takes these thoughts and concerns to Augusta to work on common-sense solutions to problems. He is reasoned in his approach and will work with anyone who will join him to solve the problem at hand. He takes time to learn about the issues and works to find the best solutions, never caring about who gets the credit as long as it is Mainers who benefit.
During the last session, he worked in a bipartisan manner to address our state’s drug crisis, approaching possible solutions from all angles. Additionally, Cushing’s work to improve our state’s economy as a member of the committee overseeing labor and commerce issues has earned him respect on both sides of the aisle. We need good people like Cushing serving us. That is why we ask voters to join us in voting for Cushing in November.

“As County Commissioner, I have worked with Andre for several years on the budget committee. His experience as a town councilor and state legislator has well prepared him to make good
contributions to our work on the county budget. He serves us well in the State Senate.”

– Hon. Tom Davis, Kenduskeag

“Andre has proven to be a very capable legislator. His background over the past thirty-five years as a small business owner and as a community leader has provided him with the knowledge and experience which serves us well if we re-elect him to the State Senate.”
